Fun & Fundraising at Pug Pawty in Essex!

Here are some fabulous photos from the annual Pug Christmas Pawty in Essex, hosted by the wonderful Kirstie, a great supporter of PDWRA.

Once again, more funds were raised for pugs in need, with raffle, tombola and may goodies to be bought too.

There are so many joyful pics to share, though just wanted to say an enormous “Thank You from us all” for the Fun as well as the fundraising!

https://pugwelfare-rescue.org.uk/fundraising-events/

Wishing you & your pugs a Carefree Christmas!

Here’s a reminder of the potential hazards to our furry friends, that we bring into our homes this Christmas season.

As well as the traditional decorations there’s festive greenery that may make your dog very ill, tempting foods which we may believe are treats for them but can cause a great deal of harm.
Vets will treat 75% more cases of dogs eating foods that are poisonous to them, in December so it’s important to be aware of what to avoid:
– Chocolate, boxes lying around, coins on the tree,
– Christmas cake, mince pies and Christmas pudding
– Foods containing grapes, raisins, sultanas & currants
– Traditional turkey, goose & chicken where bones can easily splinter
– Sage and onion stuffing, gravy, anything with onion, chives, garlic.
– Other foods, such as certain nuts, blue cheese, fatty and salty foods & don’t forget alcohol
– If it snows, take care when using antifreeze. It tastes sweet so is tempting for dogs, but can be lethal if ingested.
– Watch for dogs drinking out of puddles too as they may be tainted with antifreeze chemicals.
– Salted roads & paths can also burn their paw pads.

Yorkshire’s Pug Christmas Paw-ty raises ยฃ2,550!

Photos courtesy of Karen and Stacie

Last weekend saw PDWRA’s Yorkshire team hold their Christmas paw-ty, their biggest event yet! They raised an amazing total of ๐ŸŒŸ ยฃ2,550! ๐ŸŒŸ We send heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported organisers Lisa & Amanda, or volunteered their time, gifts and skills to make it such a happy and successful event. ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’

Additionally, Amanda set up a Facebook Birthday Fundraiser and made ยฃ575 for PDWRA – Thank You!

Every penny will go to help pugs who need our help and care.

Thanks to hosts, DIGS Student and The Venue Bar and Kitchen who made everyone especially pugs, so welcome!๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿพ

There were over 20 stalls for Christmas shopping, pug parades and competitions plus a healthy woodland walk for everyone.

Of course Santa made an appearance and an elf helper was the lucky winner of an amazing gin hamper donated by Forged Spirits.

There were too many kind donators to mention by name here, though we thank them all for their generous contributions. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’๐Ÿพ

Millie & Tia having the best retirement!

Millie and Tia arrived five days before Sue’s Mum unexpectedly passed away, suddenly from a heart attack. She believes they rescued each other.

Sue writes:
“Millie is 10 and deaf โ€ฆ she came to Pug Rescue weighing over 12kg with ingrown toenails and rotten teeth. She is now around 9kg and is so much fitter. She has no teeth but manages fine and smells so much better! She was so puzzled when she discovered running and just loves life now.

Both pugs were fostered by Davina who was amazing and we would want to pay tribute to her for the start she gave them.

Millie is a great big sister to the lovely Tia (the vet has aged her at 8) who has so many issues including being blind and missing significant amounts of fur. Tia looks for reassurance from Millie and they snuggle together most of the dayโ€ฆ Tia has also had teeth extracted and like Millie is so much more comfortable as a result. She visits a grooming parlour every three days to support her skin health and is an absolute favourite with staff โ€ฆ She loves to go and is pampered by all of them all.

They love their country walks but much prefer to be taken in the car before they start to walk, after which you canโ€™t stop them.

They are so loved and very much a part of our family.

Our sincere thanks to all who contributed to making their world that much better”.

And that includes their forever Mum, Sue, who is giving them the retirement they deserve.

Thank You & Merry Christmas May & Charlie Pug!

A very kind and dedicated supporter of PDWRA, May, makes cards and sells them throughout the year, sending the money raised to PDWRA.
Here is her lovely Christmas card to us received with her donation of ยฃ280.
Thank You May, and Festive Greetings to you too.

We really have the best supporters! ๐Ÿ’๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿพ

Ethel & Leonard, an inspiring pair!

๐Ÿ˜ Here are Ethel & Leonard. ๐Ÿ˜ When they were surrendered to us it was, reluctantly done due to a change in family circumstance which caused a great deal of heart break for their family.

Ethel & Leonard are a bonded pair who needed to be re-homed together. Leonard would not cope alone. Their PDWRA adoptive parents adore them unsurprisingly and could not imagine life without this special pair now.

This gorgeous pair inspired their very proud and talented Mum, Alison, to feature them in her designs and donate a portion of the proceeds from her cards and mugs etc. to other pugs in need.

If you’d like to support them, and PDWRA at the same time, please look at the exclusively designed pug merchandise which cannot be bought anywhere else, by Absolutely Barking Illustrations.
https://www.facebook.com/Absolutelybarkingillustrations

For example: 50p from every ยฃ3.50 card is donated to PDWRA!

Ethel & Leonard will be selling their wares at the Yorkshire PDWRA Christmas party this Sunday, 5th December 2021 at Storthes Hall Park, Kirkburton, Huddersfield, HD8 0WA.
Please Email LisaPDWRA@nullgmail.com for tickets.
All proceeds from fundraising at this event will go to PDWRA Pugs in Need.

PDWRA North’s Christmas Party Fun Fundraising!

๐ŸŽ„ PDWRA’s Christmas festivities began this weekend in North Shields with their Santa Paws Pug Christmas Party! ๐Ÿฅณ

Santa & Mrs Clause had their hands full with gorgeous pugs & games & parades & prizes, making a lot of pennies for pugs in need.๐Ÿพ

Many thanks to the wonderful organisation by the team of volunteers led by John, Matt, Karen & Gwen.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ–

More delightful photos and news to come…..

Thanks to Crafty Fundraiser Lorna!

We would like to send ENORMOUS THANKS to PDWRA pug adopter Lorna, who has been making, donating and selling, unique, hand-crafted, log reindeers with all proceeds going to our pugs in need! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿพ

Her wonderful creations are made with so much love. These decorative log Reindeers with festive scarves stand over a foot high and would look wonderful in a porch or by the Christmas tree, year after year.

As they are fragile to transport, they can’t be posted, but can be collected from the Devon area.
If you are interested, please email; lornabrydon58@nullgmail.com
or
Maybe you will be inspired to create and fundraise all for the love of pugs!?

Happy 12th Birthday Archie!

Here’s Golden-Oldie Archie celebrating his 12th Birthday!

Archie was surrendered to us with his brother some months ago for rehoming due to their parents’ ill health. They were independent enough to be rehomed separately and we have more adopters able to take one pug rather than a pair. However, they remain close neighbours in their respective PDWRA homes and still see each other regularly!

Archie’s adored for his cute, grumpy old man characteristics & on his special day he enjoyed Aberdeen Angus meatballs for breakfast and sausages with organic chicken for his dinner! Heโ€™s being thoroughly spoilt and loved ๐Ÿฅฐ as he always has been. ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿพ

Dougie

Dougie was very much loved by his owner, though was not aware of his many health conditions or could afford to pay for any treatments required. Unfortunately, Dougie’s owner had to be taken into hospital and a kind neighbour was asked to look after him. The neighbour was concerned as Dougie had an eye ulcer which had been left untreated and his overall condition was not good.

We were asked if we could help, which of course we did so that Dougie could be seen by a vet as soon as possible. The vet thought Dougie’s eye would rupture and he could lose it. Thankfully by immediately treating his eye it has improved, although he will have to be referred to an eye specialist in the New Year. Dougie also has many skin tumours, some of these have already been removed, though he will have to have more surgery for these plus a hernia which has to be treated.

Sweet Dougie also has a curved spine, which makes him drag his feet so cannot walk very well. He came to us in a lot of discomfort, but has been so brave and strong going through the surgeries he has had so far – He trusts us and takes it all in his stride.

A number of good people were involved in Dougie’s rescue and getting him to his initial treatments and with the support of our Trustees, Dougie’s healthcare will be supported and funded by us for as long as he needs it.

He is an absolute sweetheart who is very much loved by his family caring for him superbly as he deserves to be! We are thankful to everyone involved who rallied to help Dougie and his owner during their difficult time.

Remembrance Sunday.

On Remembrance Sunday, for all those who lost their lives in the line of duty:

Lest we forget…
They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

In Memory of the late Hugo, who passed away a few months ago.
