Barry’s Achievement for Summer!

We’ve been following Barry’s weight loss since he came to PDWRA at over 12kg some months ago. His target to aim for was 9kg so that he’d be in great shape to enjoy summer. This gorgeous boy achieved it this month, weighing in at 8.95kg!!
Barry’s harness was falling off at one point but here he is, enjoying the weather leading up to the heatwave, with his encouraging grumble!
Barry has really fallen on his paws and is living the dream with his PDWRA family.

Calling Northern Ireland for Freddie!

Freddie is a confident, energetic 4 year old boy with a very loving nature. He needs a forever home in Northern Ireland.
Are you an experienced dog-owner who could offer this?

Freddie does have a neurological condition which he’s had since birth, nystagmus, which he manages well. It causes his eyes to flicker and his head to wobble. He came to us entire, and with a chronic ear infection which would have caused him a lot of pain and unsurprisingly contributed to dominance issues with other dogs and snapping when trying to distract or treat him. However, since he has been neutered, he is increasingly calmer .

If you are able to look after Freddie’s needs, prevent the infection returning and manage any pack dynamics confidently, then PDWRA and Freddie would love to hear from you.

Please apply to adopt him, referencing Freddie in your application, at: https://pugwelfare-rescue.org.uk/adopting-a-pug/

Thanks Emily, for your Fundraising Donation!

We would like to say a Big Thank You to Emily, a freelance photographer and great supporter of all the fundraising events run in Yorkshire for PDWRA. All have been made possible by #teamYorkshire and their supporters and contributors.

Emily has photographed many special events appearing in local and national press and her involvement with our charity was inspired by her own lovely pug, Anna, pictured here.

Her latest venture, was to complete the Total Warrior ‘Muddy Challenge’ course which raised another £200 for our pugs in need. She enjoyed it so much, both Emily and her husband have signed up to do next year’s course already!
Thank you both!

There are many ways to fundraise to help PDWRA with their ongoing vet costs, whether you’re athletic like Emily or not, so please let us know about your ideas and efforts, or join us at any of our upcoming events:

Amber Alerts for most of the country: Extreme Temperatures!

With amber alerts around the country and increasing, prolonged high temperatures, our furry friends may not be enjoying it as much.

Please apply the usual precautions and know what to look out for during any early signs of heatstroke.

Keep them indoors with you too as these temperatures are extreme. 🥵🐾

BELLA, is looking for her FOREVER HOME!

Meet Bella! A beautiful 7 year-old fawn girl who is hoping to find a forever home with NO other dogs or cats.

Bella has a spinal condition, first evident in 2019, which may mean, like all of us, she will slow down over time, and not be as agile as she is now. She experiences no pain, and is not on any medication. Surgery is unlikely to be of benefit now, given the duration of her condition. She just needs a loving, comfortable home with a responsible family to envelope her with kindness.

Bella doesn’t like competition for her owner’s attention though. She reacts to other dogs in the household, usually at meal and walk preparation times. Similarly, she may perceive very young children as competition, so that is to be avoided too, unless fully supervised.

Bella is house trained, but does get excited at walk times so there may be the odd “accident” while her harness is fitted. She’s currently enjoying two, 20 – 30 minute wheel walks a day, and one in the buggy. If walking on tarmac or hard surfaces, she has little boots to wear, but on grass or woodland, she can go bootless.

She is a contented, faithful and loving little girl, who doesn’t bark, or when she tries no sound comes out! 😍😊

If you feel you have a suitable home to offer her, please apply via our website, referencing BELLA in your application notes. We can then discuss in more detail with you.

Thank You! 🤗🐾
