Ellie’s Progress

To all our followers and kind donators towards Ellie, who with significant healthcare challenges due to her previous life, being bred from and without sufficient vet care, is recovering really well a few weeks after surgery.

With the aid of a baby monitor, foster Mum was able to get some sleep during those nights afterwards. Ellie does still have to be supervised while eating and is limited to a few minutes exercise only, but she has a brand-new buggy too and remains inseparable from best bud Rolo who follows her everywhere to ensure she’s ok!

We couldn’t achieve any of this for Ellie and others like her without the support of volunteers and supporters of our cause – Thank You!

Coping with Fireworks?!

Up to a third of our dogs struggle through the fireworks season plus double the normal number go missing so make sure their microchips are up-to-date.

– Watch out for spent fireworks lurking under leaves when walking your dogs, they contain very hazardous chemicals!
– Hopefully they’re already walked before it’s dark
– Feed your dog before they begin or your dog may be too stressed to eat.
– Make sure your house and garden are escape-proof. They can bolt if they’re scared.
– Keep your windows and curtains closed, turn lights on, and the TV or music to help drown the noise.
– Create a safe, cosy place to settle your dog before it’s dark.
– Keep them entertained to take their mind off the noise.
– Comfort and reassure them as they are sensitive to picking up on how their humans are feeling.

Classic FM are broadcasting “Pet Classics” from 6pm to 10pm on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 November, which promises relaxing symphonic music, with dedications and practical advice courtesy of the RSPCA on the two busiest nights of the year for fireworks.

Keep your pugs safe for Halloween!

Everyone, two-legged and four, should be able to have a safe, fun, and happy Halloween.

Here are some tips and references to consider:

– Keep chocolate and sweets (many contain xylitol) out of paws reach
– Be careful with lit pumpkins and never leave your dog unattended around them
– If using battery lights in your pumpkins make sure your dog doesn’t get close enough to chew or swallow them
– Be aware of any choking hazards
– Keep Halloween decorations out of their reach or they could become entangled in them
– Trick or treaters and unfamiliar visitors especially in costume can cause alarm to your dog so create a safe quiet place for them to relax.
– Walk your dog before dark to avoid trick or treaters who may scare your dog or cause unnecessary stress.
– Your dog is likely to come into contact with more children than usual – so it is important to prepare for your dog’s reaction accordingly. Also, be prepared for children wanting to touch your dog, which can cause extra stress

It’s useful; to have your vets telephone number to hand should your dog find and eat chocolate, sweets or items which may block its airway. Your vet will need to know what was eaten, when and how much. If your dog eats something they shouldn’t, do not attempt to make them sick unless your vet advises this, as this could cause further problems.

-Also be aware that fireworks are available before Halloween and loud bangs and sudden bright lights may spook your dog. Diwali and Bonfire night are also days away!

Thank You for Ellie – Post-Op Update!

💖 An Update on Ellie! 💖

We would firstly like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and most generous response in donations towards Ellie’s surgery and vet costs – it was overwhelming! 💞🐾

You will remember this little girl was rescued by a young mum, spending all her savings after seeing her advertised on the internet, only to discover she had been used as a breeding machine and required significant veterinary care. 😢

Your generosity has helped Ellie through her first stage of surgery where she underwent a long procedure that included a repair to a large hernia (which turned out to be her uterus), removal of a mass from her neck, to be tested, plus extensive BOAS surgery.

Ellie went through a very challenging recovery after all of this surgery and had to remain in the veterinary hospital for 4 days!

She is now home, making a steady recovery. Ellie is really enjoying being back with her foster family including their pug Rolo, and is even enjoying her new-found tummy tickles again. Rolo hasn’t left her side since, and follows her everywhere making sure she is okay.

After a further few worrying days, the results of the mass removed came back to thankfully confirm it was benign. We couldn’t wish for better news for Ellie, or to update you with!!
