16 July was the date of our trip to Hayling Island, where we had a delightful Welfare party thanks to the kind invitation for Angie Graham and her family. I always get a little buzz as we cross over the bridge and then it is not far to the family home where there is a very special garden, lovingly cared for. The garden had been set up with several gazebos so that whatever the weather, there was protection. With this summer being what it has been, none of us expected boiling hot sunshine. Pugs were dashing about everywhere, in and out of paddling pools, round the shrubs and appearing in the kitchen – with pugs being pugs, looking longingly at beautifully decorated cup-cakes. It was the most successful party on the Island to date and went one tenth of the way to our monthly £10,000 vet bill. Yes, that is what we are having to spend and are trying to raise.
